CCOBGYN offers comprehensive gynecological ultrasound services to help diagnose and evaluate a variety of gynecologic conditions.
A gynecological ultrasound may include both a transabdominal ultrasound, in which a probe is placed on the abdomen, and a transvaginal ultrasound, which uses a narrow probe inserted into the vagina to obtain detailed images of the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures.
Your provider may recommend an ultrasound for a variety of reasons, including:
- Pelvic pain
- Abdominal pain
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Ovarian cyst evaluation
- Uterine fibroids
- Other gynecologic concerns
At CCOBGYN, we strive to make your care as convenient as possible. In most cases, your ultrasound is performed by one of our experienced ultrasound technicians, followed by a consultation with your physician during the same visit to review the results and discuss any recommended treatment options.
Sonohysterogram
In certain situations, your provider may recommend a sonohysterogram, a specialized ultrasound procedure that provides a more detailed view of the inside of the uterus.
During this procedure, a small amount of sterile saline solution is gently introduced into the uterine cavity through the cervix during a transvaginal ultrasound. The saline helps improve visualization of the uterine lining and can assist in identifying conditions such as polyps, fibroids, scar tissue, or other abnormalities.
Your provider will discuss whether a sonohysterogram is appropriate for your situation and will review the procedure with you when the study is ordered.
